Swing Dance Newsreels (1930’s & 40’s)

Posted by Dance

From the documentary: AMERICA DANCES 1897-1948 2003
I’ve backed this footage with two classic recordings from the 1930’s. The first is my personal favorite small group Jazz record of the 1930’s Count Basie’s 1936 recording of “Shoe Shine Boy” with that brilliant tenor sax solo by Lester Young. Next is Chick Webb’s classic 1934 recording of “Stompin’ At The Savoy”. The newsreel footage starts with some general footage followed by a segment from that great 1938 Venice Beach clip followed by a lengthy compilation of Harvest Moon segments. Great stuff all around.
