The entire soundie; BLI – BLIP 1942
Here we have Paul White and Marie Bryant along with Duke Ellington and His Orchestra reprising a number they did in the groundbreaking show “Jump for Joy” in 1941 in Los Angeles. Duke Ellington put this show together with the intention of breaking away from the demeaning racial stereotypes that prevailed on stage and in Hollywood at the time. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think Paul White’s opening vocal exactly demonstrates that intention. The dance starts at about the 1:40 mark.
