An Intro To the Swing EraFrom the documentary: JAZZ 2000 A good basic intro to the swing ear with some excellent dance sequences. (Visited 3 times, 1 visits today)
More whitewashed American history. No real explanation of how swing was BORN, in black neighborhoods. Swing dance was created by African Americans. Whites used to go to Harlem to enjoy the black music and dance and of course, started copying the dances. Please educate yourselves on Norma Miller and Frankie Manning and Whitey's Lindyhoppers. The Jitterbug was the white-washed version of the Lindy bc the black folks were smooth with their dancing and whites hopped up and down, i.e." jitterbug". The visuals in the video are shameful…happy dancing white folk looking all good and the only black folk look poor and downtrodden…HISTORY OF THE SAVOY ballroom..RESEARCH! Show the truth, black folk were looking good, dressed up and dancing the dances THEY CREATED.
For those of you who are wondering, Swing dance is still very much alive and thriving today, particularly in Europe. Just look up on YouTube 'Rock That Swing', 'The Snowball', or 'Savoy Cup', three of the biggest dance festivals. Most major cities have dance schools teaching Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Charleston and many other styles of the era.

Music is universal language of the human soul.
